Fashion Insider: Fashion Week Dallas

Posted in Fashion Insider by SMUstyle on October 25, 2011

The wait is finally over!  Move over New York, because Fashion Week Dallas is almost here!  Fashion Week Dallas is a major event for Dallas stylistas to not only celebrate fabulous American and British fashion, but to also inspire young people to get into the fashion industry.  January 16-22, 2012 will be filled with runway shows, the latest fashions, and chances to interact with fashion designers.  The man behind the event is Mahiri Takai, CEO of Mklinks Models, fashion show producer, and Fashion Editor for Dallas Weekly.  Takai says “fashion lovers will be in fashion heaven as they spend a stylish week in Dallas soaking up the latest in fashion design.”  Sounds like a fabulous time to me!  For more information, go to or contact Mahiri Takai at  See you at Fashion Week Dallas!

Fête Set: Paris Fashion Week

Posted in Fête Set by SMUstyle on October 6, 2011

Paris Fashion Week came to a close today after fashion powerhouses such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Valentino, YSL, Givency, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, and others displayed their spring and summer 2012 collections on the catwalk.

Paris marks the last of fashion weeks held semi-annually in the top four fashion capitals of the world: New York, London, Milan and Paris.

It was a week of much anticipated debuts with Kanye West’s first women’s fashion line and launch party for Kate Moss’s jewelry line. Kanye showcased his collection Saturday night on the runway. It was a mix of patterns, stark colors, and lots of fur. Will the future of his line turn out as infamous as his music?

Check out some of the best looks from Paris Fashion Week this year.

Fashion Insider: New York Fashion Week

Posted in Fashion Insider by SMUstyle on February 15, 2011

Hey SMUstyle readers!

I’m currently at New York Fashion Week — right now I’m actually blogging from my room at The Standard Hotel. I’ve been attending shows since Friday and wanted to share some of my snapshots from inside and outside the tents at Lincoln Center and the various off-site show locations.

Sorry about the resolution in these iPhone pics, if you are in search of more professional images from the shows I recommend looking here and here. I’m off to my next show, J. Mendel — if you’re interested in more to-the-minute coverage refer to my Twitter.

Where all the magic happens, well most of it. Lincoln Center, home of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

I took this from the seat of my very first show, Perry Ellis. The show started at 11 am on Friday, I got there on time, but little did I know the shows typically kicks-off at least half an hour late! So many people to seat and seats to fill! Perry Ellis was an amazing show, think all neutrals (charcoals, tans, olives and camels) in warm wools and  twills.

I sat 2nd row here, but the shots are still a blur — the models move so fast and the lights are so bright! This collection was phenomenal, bright solid colors, quality fabrics and the cuts were baggy yet tailored. The designs were sophisticated, yet carefree and wearable. I would wear every piece!
