Fête Set: Lucchese Trunk Show & Polo Match

Posted in Fête Set by SMUstyle on October 25, 2011

SMU students came out to watch the finals of the 2011 Dallas Pro Polo League on Sunday afternoon wearing polo chic attire. With a plethora of riding boots, sun hats, and blazers, the polo field was a place to see and be seen. Lucchese Boot Company hosted a trunk show at the event. The Texan company dates back to 1883 and is known for their handcrafted boots made out of the finest kind of leather and near-perfect skins. Their 1883 collection is fashionable and a true modern classic. Their featured SMU embroidered boot was a huge hit amongst students. Spectators enjoyed sips, music, and catering from Dallas’ beloved Hamburger Man.

Fête Set: Art of Knox Festival

Posted in Fête Set by SMUstyle on October 24, 2011

Last Saturday night was filled with fashion, food, and festivities at the first Art of Knox festival.  Knox is a fun, stylish part of Dallas just minutes away from SMU, and there wasn’t a shortage of fun things to do.  Event-goers had a chance to try out tasty treats from the top restaurants in the area.  Raffle tickets to win big prizes were being sold to benefit the Friends of the Katy Trail.  Later in the evening on McKinney Ave., fashions by Terri Ives Couture were modeled in a beautiful outdoor fashion show.  The only thing that was missing from the evening was the art. I was expecting more presentations and appearances by local artists.  But overall, it was a fabulous event, and I look forward to Art of Knox 2012.

My favorite event of the evening was the fashion show by Terri Ives Couture.  I got the inside scoop from the owner and designer herself.  Terri Ives Couture sells ready-to-wear fashions, as well as custom couture fashions.  She describes her style as “fashionable but wearable.”  Her client is “a woman who loves fashion” and is usually 35 or older.  Even though most of us SMU Stylistas are still in college and Terri’s client is older, there were so many trends in the fashion show that are so relevant to everyone this season.  There was a lot of fur, which is one of Ms. Ives’ favorite fall trends.  I also loved that her designs are classic, but still have an edge.  Terri is inspired by fabrics and by watching people; she is interested in what her customers’ needs are, which we all can appreciate.

Everyone knows that formal season is coming up, and what better way to prepare than with a manicure and a new dress? This Thursday, October 20th, Rent the Runway is partnering with Hawaiian Nail Bar to host an event for SMU students.
Stop by the Hawaiian Nail Bar between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to receive 15 percent off of services as well as a surprise coupon for $25, $50, or $75 off your next RTR rental.

If you haven’t checked out Hawaiian Nail Bar yet, I would definitely recommend adding it to your to-do list for Thursday. In addition to manicures and pedicures, this adorable, Hawaiian-themed nail bar’s menu includes facials, waxing, spray tans, foot reflexology, microdermabrasion, and massages as well as free alcoholic (or non-alcoholic) drinks from piña coladas to beer and wine.* And with the chance to win up to $75 off of a rental from Rent the Runway’s collection of 24,000 dresses and 12,000 accessories, this is an event you don’t want to miss.

*Must be 21 to order alcoholic drinks.

Fête Set: SMU Retail Club at Piermarni

Posted in Fête Set by SMUstyle on October 12, 2011

The SMU Retail Club party at Piermarini Boutique tonight was a huge success and meeting John was such a treat (the pomegranate Pinkberry was also a nice treat!) If you haven’t been over to the cozy house on Hibernia and shopped in what feels like your friends closet, then you’re missing out on some amazing sweaters, cashmere scarves and leggings for fall. Piermarini only carries three of each piece they order to ensure that you will be the only one wearing it.

Fête Set: Paris Fashion Week

Posted in Fête Set by SMUstyle on October 6, 2011

Paris Fashion Week came to a close today after fashion powerhouses such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Valentino, YSL, Givency, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, and others displayed their spring and summer 2012 collections on the catwalk.

Paris marks the last of fashion weeks held semi-annually in the top four fashion capitals of the world: New York, London, Milan and Paris.

It was a week of much anticipated debuts with Kanye West’s first women’s fashion line and launch party for Kate Moss’s jewelry line. Kanye showcased his collection Saturday night on the runway. It was a mix of patterns, stark colors, and lots of fur. Will the future of his line turn out as infamous as his music?

Check out some of the best looks from Paris Fashion Week this year.
