Fashion Insider: Carson’s Chic List

Posted in Shop Savvy by SMUstyle on December 9, 2010

Carson from the Dallas Stylistas is back just in time for the holiday season to dish on what he is loving this time of year!

1. The Outnet; www.theoutnet.com

A few weeks ago I stumbled across the Outnet and fell immediately in love. The Outnet was created by the same people who run Net-A-Porter, giving it automatic validity in my eyes. Their tagline is “the most fashionable fashion outlet” and after some in-depth recon work I’m inclined to agree. Right now, for example, Outnet has Ksubi Biker Skinny Jeans for $54.00 – 70% off retail price, an Alexander Wang T Silk Paneled Jersey Tee for $36.00 – 60% off retail price, and an Alice + Olivia Cropped Cotton Tee for just $26.00 – 65% off retail! Great savings on hot brands… this is absolutely a site to check regularly!

2. Christian Louboutin No. Prive 120mm Woodstock

I am truly, madly, deeply in love with Christian Louboutin. I wear my suede high tops as often as possible and I even have a pair of No. Prive 120mm heels in a light nude/camel patent leather with a crimson toe that sit on my desk as art and inspiration! This twist on the classic No. Prive slingback, the to-die-for Woodstock print, is a home run in my eyes. These will look so great with a white skinny jean or navy shift. It may still be December but I have visions of spring on my mind already!

3. Vogue Best Dressed Special Edition

If you can believe it, this is the first-ever issue of a Vogue Best Dressed Special Edition! Vogue has chosen ten phenomenally dressed women to highlight, from Blake Lively to Michelle Obama to Lady Gaga. Each woman has a strong sense of self and as Hamish Bowles writes, these “ten individualists…are gamely rewriting the rules. Or rather, showing us all that there are no rules beyond staying true to oneself”

4. Tina Craig Clutch/Wallet

Tina Craig is co-founder of the BagSnob blog (and all of its many affiliates) and has impeccable taste when it comes to handbags, luggage and wallets. So it comes as no surprise that her first foray into bag design is an absolute stunner. The Tina Craig clutch/wallet is a gorgeous large zip-around wallet designed to be versatile enough to work as a wallet in your day bag or as a clutch to be taken out for quick errands or a cocktail party, at 8” x 4” x 1” it’s the perfect size for either! There are four compartments and eight card slots, with a center zippered pocket. The clutch/wallet comes in a wide variety of ostrich and porosus croc skins and colors, I’m personally quite partial to the crème and grey ostrich options. To order one for yourself (or anyone lucky enough to find themselves on your holiday gift list) contact Tina Craig at tina@bagsnob.com

5. Luxury Crewneck Sweater

All hail the return of classic American style! One of my favorite trends we’ve seen over the last few months is Americana back en vogue. From Fair Isle knits to the updated Preppy Handbook it’s hard to escape. What’s really great about investing in classic American pieces, though, is that they’re not pieces that will go out of style. When you wear them correctly (read: understated, unadorned, glamour without the glitz) they work at any juncture in your life. If you want to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe my advice is to start with a luxury basic, such as this cashmere crewneck Crumpet sweater for $435, which you can find on Net-A-Porter. Ralph Lauren also makes great luxury basics. I’ve had my Ralph Lauren crème v-neck cashmere sweater and navy crewneck cashmere sweater for three going on four years and they’re still not only in terrific condition but don’t feel remotely outdated!
