Fashion Insider: NorthPark Center’s On The Runway

Posted in Fashion Insider by SMUstyle on August 23, 2010

Fall fashion shows have finally arrived in Dallas. This weekend, NorthPark Center‘s weekend-long On the Runway event was the perfect pairing with Texas’ Tax Free Weekend. Department store heaven descended upon a pop-up runway in NorthCourt via looks from CUSP by Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Barneys New York. What we loved the most? Feathery minis, utilitarian outerwear and thigh-high boots — all wearable, enviable and oh-so-chic.

Birds of a Feather: Take flight in these flirty pieces that work with of an array of items already in your closet — opaque tights and patent stilettos, black leggings and combat boots or a dainty camisole and chunky belt. From L to R: Blue/black feather bottom dress by Cynthia Rowley. Bone wolf tee by Torn, feather skirt by Alice + Olivia. Gray jersey tank by Haute Hippe, feather skirt by Robert Rodriguez.

Mad for Military: Who knew practicality could be so hip? Button up with utility-chic outwear with flap-front pockets and rows of buttons to keep you in style and out of the cold. From L to R: Grey tweed utility jacket by Kensie, burgundry skinny jean by Jag. Mocha leather jacket by McGinn, brush gold tank by Edun, army green silk cropped pant by Rich & Skinny. Olive utility jacket with belted waist by Sanctuary, green print ruffle mini skirt by Edun.

Made for Walking: The thigh’s the limit with the go-to footwear of the season. These leather high-steppers made treks down the runway paired with anything from a blazer and leggings to a scintillating sequined shift. From L to R: Black single button blazer by BCBG Max Azria, black print skinny jean by Current/Elliot, boots by Stuart Weitzman. Chocolate leather jacket and gold ombre sequin dress by Alice + Olivia. Sleeveless dress by Helmut Lang.

Color Blocking + Lady-Like Style via UK Vogue, August 2010

It may be 105 in Dallas but we’re already forecasting a bright fall full of fab trends.

What we love for cooler temps: Lady-like confidence; Daring fashion ventures; Textured fabrics; Color blocked heels; Pumpkin orange bows; Winter shorts, paired with socks and heels — after all, fashion is not always about practicality.

Trend Alert: The coupling of pastels and geometric elements, solid tones lined with neutrals, and abstract pairing of simple stand-alone pieces.

How You Can Pull It Off:

Structured short from Urban Outfitters

Suede platform pumps by Steve Madden

Color block shoes by Marni

Black skirt by Rag and Bone at Nordstrom; Alexander Wang at Barneys; Sariah skirt at Barneys.

Colored skinny belt at Nordstrom.

Color Block Tops at The Out Net and Loeffler Randall
